Neurological Occupational Therapy
Empowering residents to reclaim mastery over the Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) through adaptive technology and fine motor retraining.
Restoring Autonomy and Purpose
Occupational Therapy (OT) tackles the practical, everyday challenges of living with a neurological disorder. While physical therapy focuses on getting you from point A to point B, occupational therapy focuses on what you do once you arrive: feeding yourself, dressing, bathing, and engaging in personal hobbies.
\nOur specialized Occupational Therapists implement aggressive fine motor retraining, cognitive-visual therapies, and the deployment of advanced adaptive equipment. By breaking down complex tasks into manageable steps, we help residents with Huntingtons, Cerebral Palsy, and severe strokes maintain their dignity and self-reliance.
Core Interventions
- Activities of Daily Living (ADL) retraining
- Fine motor and dexterity rehabilitation
- Visual-perceptual and cognitive training
- Upper extremity splinting and contracture prevention
- Environmental adaptation and assistive technology fitting
Targeted Neurological Interventions
Our in-house therapists do not offer generic rehabilitation. Every protocol is specifically mapped to the progression of conditions like MS, ALS, Huntington's, and profound strokes.
Self-Feeding Adaptations
Utilizing weighted utensils, specialized plates, and mobile arm supports to combat tremors and weakness, allowing residents to feed themselves.
Cognitive Rehabilitation
Engaging the brain through structured tasks to improve memory, executive function, and safety awareness in residents with neurological cognitive decline.
Pain & Splinting
Fabricating custom thermoplastic splints on-site to stretch spastic muscles, protect skin integrity, and reduce severe upper extremity pain.
Equipped for Maximum Success
Our OT department utilizes fully functional training environments—including a simulated kitchen and an accessible ADL training bathroom—to practice real-world skills safely. We also deploy advanced assistive technology like eye-tracking environmental controls, allowing residents with total paralysis (like advanced ALS) to control their room lighting, TV, and communication devices.
